Should it?

Name origins seem to think it's named Lynchburg, because settlers from Lynchburg, VA were lazy at naming things

The origins of Lynchburg, VA's come from the founder John Lynch. He was around from 1740-1820. Lynch freed his own slaves during his lifetime and consistently supported the antislavery movement

It is thought that the word lynching came from his brother, who was a vigilante, Quaker, and judge. I didn't see if he lynched people indiscriminately or if he had sinister intentions

All people with the surname Lynch should have their names forcibly changed to Lunch.

Quakers, by and large, were abolitionists.

His brother was famous for his lynching trials against Loyalists to the Crown during the Revolutionary War. Nothing race related.

Yes, lets change the name of a city named after a guy who was anti slavery and freed his own slaves. Would logically fit in with the rest of the actions these people seem to take.

This is almost as dumb as when PETA wanted Fishkill, NY to rename itself, not realizing it literally just meant Fish Creek.

Is this actually a controversy or are you being hypothetical?

Couldn't fit the url, just remove the space. It even acknowledges its the name of an abolitionist, then whines that it doesn't matter and they should change it anyway.

That'd be neat. I wonder if Jack Daniels would endorse it and be the midday whiskey
