The problem with this is they're not paying to make games better. They're paying for other people to not be able to play them on their hardware of choice.

No its not. All you really have to do here is wait. There will probably be timed Xbox exclusives that PS5 owners will have to wait for...and when its finally there, the price will probably drop too. Meanwhile, on Nintendo island, they typically only have timed forever exclusive IPs that cost 70 bucks forever. That's not really pro-consumer at all.

A rerelease implies you can get that same game somewhere else for much cheaper. Nintendo had Dragons Dogma for $40 and you can still buy it on 4 other consoles for like $10 if you wanted.

To be fair Yakuza Like a Dragon hasn't been confirmed for PS5 as far as I know.

Although it's hard to say if that's due to a console deal with Microsoft or because of how Sony is handling PS4->PS5 upgrades. I think it's more the latter because it's still going to PS4. Would be weird to just pay for the next gen version.

The rest of the stuff is Microsoft more paying AA developers. Which I don't have an issue with. They tend to focus on one platform at a time anyway.

The outrage is over companies paying for games to be excluded elsewhere. Gamers should be able to play third party games where they want. Especially since these consoles are closer than ever and crossplay becomes more and more common.

aside from that, there's a zero percent chance they chose to only put it on PS4 because the original was only on PS1 at launch when Square Enix is a huge company that now puts all their other games on multiple platforms

I guess I get it, but if the defense for one is they own the IP then whoever owns the IP should be able to do with it what they please. In this case those people dont have a console of their own so they sell it one. If it means a timed exclusive then so be it. At least its not permanent like Zelda would be.

It's lame. The role of the publisher is to fund and publish games. They shouldn't need to then get more funding off Microsoft or Sony to get them to pay for exclusivity. Nobody really benefits from it outside of shareholders.

PSB: What is the strategy with PS5 when it comes to exclusive titles and working with partners?
Eric: Similar to what we did with PS4, our teams spoke with developers well in advance of releasing the product. And we talked to developers about what they wanted in a next-generation console. and a lot of their feedback went into the design of the PlayStation 5 architecture.
And with that, we found that along the way, they were creating some great games that matched up so well to the platform and the ambition were trying to achieve. So were really fortunate because there are a ton of great titles, as you saw today, and a lot of them are exclusive.

All in, we showed about 13 titles that are launching exclusively on PlayStation 5. And those exclusive arrangements range from a few months to a couple of years. You saw some great titles: Godfall from Gearbox, Death Loop from Bethesda, Project Athia from Square Enix
