I read like a 3rd of it so far. It all feels realistic and explains a lot. I'm gonna read the rest tonight.

Im gonna be honest. That 22 minute read time almost scared me away. Glad it didn't. I just don't read like that.

I hear thatwhen I saw how long it was I almost didnt bother either. But Im glad I did.

It could be some random guy making shit up, however, most all of it is believable. Matter of fact I dont think I read anything in the essay that had stopping like ..wait a second...

Police look out for their own. Even the good police officers that look down on corruption, 99% of the time wouldnt roll over on their partner, or a co-worker. Theyd just ignore it, and continue to do right by themselves, and not worry about what the other cops do, as itll sort itself out. And considering the threat to officers who do roll on their partners and coworkers, thats enough to make even the most honorable person forget their honor for a moment.

That mentality is exactly why weve got these issues in policing. The solutions presented make sense as well. Idk about getting rid of police all together, but the system is broken beyond repair...it really would need to be completely thrown out and rebuilt to correct the current problems.

Sounds like you're saying "No one can know for sure, but I'm gonna judge people for even considering it's real anyway"

If CE was CE'ing, this dude would be being dragged through the dirt (verbally) just for mentioning this level of racism. And you're the closest one doing that atm.

I completely understand being a skepticIm one myselfbut in this specific instance, have you entertained the possibility that this blog essay was done this way to protect his identity? How many officers (who arent retired, and far removed enough that exposing this type of shit wouldnt affect them) in this current day, or in the last 5-6 years have come out and given detailed descriptions of how their precinct, fellow officers, and superiors behave?

I think you can count them on one hand. I personally can vaguely recall maybe one. Nothing of this magnitude though.

It could be a left leaning BLM activist, looking to spark outrage. Very possible. But we can at least rule out whoever doing it, doing it for clout, or the spotlight, because its done anonymously...

the writer is a man who used to be cop for like at least a decade I think he said. or more. and then he quit because he couldn't live with his career choice anymore. basically he describes his experiences being a cop and talks about him trying to arrest people over BS charges for obscure laws that don't matter. harassing homeless people, trying egg people on to attack him so he could arrest them. that kind of thing. and his coworkers who would plant weapons and drugs on people. or even kill people and laugh about it. and lie that they had to do it and had no choice but brag in secret that it was fun to kill the person.

he also says that the entire police system nationwide is built on oppressing the masses and protecting the interests of the rich people who support the cops, and crushing down their boots on anyone who isn't part of that rich class.

and he says that from day 1 of training, you get hit with propaganda and fear tactics to make you hate non cops and think of them as "the enemy".

also he touches on that most crime happens for social reasons. failings of society that drive people to crime. and that there are better ways to fix that then to just kill people.

@CreepySmile

This is a note from the author, added specifically due to some peoples concerns regarding authenticity...

...Hello everyone! I really appreciate the support and engagement with my memoir. Im blown away; I honestly thought like maybe 100 people would read this. I know in the age of dubious anonymous accounts some of you dont feel comfortable sharing this around yet (which I totally respect).
While I want to remain anonymous to avoid doxxing and retaliation, I do want you to feel comfortable that youre sharing something true. Im not entirely sure how to do this in a way that keeps my family safe, but Im working on it. Even if Im never able to verify my claims to your satisfaction, I hope the reading list at the end of the essay whets your appetite to learn about about abolition. Everyone on that list is way smarter than me anyway!
Thanks again, take care of each other out there...

Obviously this isnt proof, but its directed towards individuals with concerns about validity, so figured Id drop it here for everyone.

Going back to what's in the article, my personal experience with cops lines up.

As a teenager (post-HS) I worked the closing shift at Fazoli's about two miles from home. I and my roommate would close the store and walk home between 11 and midnight. The local cops constantly stopped and harrassed us, demanded our IDs, and held us up for no reason. At first they said they were making sure we weren't underage and out past curfew. After we got stopped by the same handful of officers multiple times to the point they knew us by name it became obvious they were just fishing for something they could bust us for.

After I got a car, I lost count of how many times I got pulled over for nothing. Once I stopped at a stop sign, lit a cigarette, handed the pack to my back seat passenger, took the pack back, put it back in my pocket, checked the intersection and proceeded. I was at a complete stop the entire time. A few seconds later I got pulled over, and the cop said I "rolled" through the intersection. After I and my two passengers told him in no uncertain terms that he was either mistaken or lying, he let me go with a "verbal warning." I'm assuming he was fishing, hoping to smell weed or see something that would give him probable cause for a search.

Another time a friend and I were walking downtown, on a public sidewalk that ran along a major street. Two officers in a nearby park called us over to them, then proceeded to write us tickets for park curfew violation. We asked how we were in violation when we weren't in the park until they called us in, and they told us to contest it in court. When we got to court, the officers weren't there. They had filed our case for the wrong time; the court had held our case earlier that morning, despite our tickets clearly showing the time we had arrived for. The judge didn't care, said we weren't eligible for public defense, and suggested I take a loan out on my 15-year-old car to pay our legal fees. The prosecution threatened us with the maximum penalty of 6 month jail time if we tried to appeal, as well as additional charges for "failing to appear" at the "correct" time.

As I got older and got nicer cars, this sort of crap slowed and eventually stopped. It's pretty obvious the police target younger, poorer, and disadvantaged people because they lack the resources, understanding, and experience to fight the courts.

It's a nice read. I agree with a lot of it besides considering abolish the police, defund the police and disarm the police.

I don't think getting rid of the police is a great idea and I also think we still need them in modern day society. They can have guns to protect themselves in risky situations, but if I am to be held accountable for protecting myself with a gun then so should they.

The way it's written seems to be written by somebody in the Bay Area that always points to capitalism as the problem too. Aside from those points it was a decent read.

@Patchwork

people are are arguing about if this is plausible, care to fact check for us?

Im not finished reading it, but its not implausible. I cant tell you with any certainty that this doesnt happen, but I disagree with the overarching points hes trying to make. I also disagree that police are somehow taught to oppress.

Its a lot to unpack. Im really exhausted by going back and forth with people on here about police, but Ill say this much:

It sounds like hes talking about the LAPD, which would make some of those claims plausible; in large departments like that, theres actually less oversight.

The idea that were trained to oppress, or that the poor treatment of people different than you is somehow ingrained in you, though, is just asinine.

In summation, its possible some of that is true. Its hard to believe one person was surrounded by that much corruption, though, and seems more like a collection of anecdotes from other people. He is an absolute shit human, either way.

I can proudly say that none of that has been my experience in policing, but Im on the entire opposite coast. Im in a fairly decent metropolitan area. Its no LA, but its sizeable, and his narrative doesnt fit here.
