The bloom on the eggshell protects the contents from bacteria by sealing off the porous shell. The only correct time to wash the eggs is right before use.

But not refrigerating eggs? That's just plain wasteful to me since unwashed eggs at room temperature will last only a month, and it takes me several months to finish off a dozen.
