My issue (personal) with the u.s one is it tries too hard. Like way too hard. The Japanese one is casual and light hearted and never takes itself that seriously. It makes sense because there is no real stakes in dragon ball and the show embraces it.

Nah but she's commented on to being really cute in universe. It was just goku being stupid as usual lol. I wanna see if it's in the manga as well, I'm pretty sure it was a throwback since the buu saga is filled with them.

I mean in real life Videl would've been one of those athletic slim girls with a pixie cut and Goku's a goddamn idiot altogether so obviously he's gonna get that impression.

Maybe Goku got ahold of Roshi's big titty porn one day and thought that's just what women looked like normally.

I don't think it was supposed to look tomboyish. Short hair on girls was extremely popular back then in japan (even toriyamas wife had that sort of hair style), which is why a lot of girls aroound that in the series had short hair.
