Because I remembered my American history wrong, okay? I had this recollection that Johnson's presidency was full of harsh anti-South rhetoric that resulted in an extremely slow climb back up for Confederate states and seeded bitterness in the citizens of that part of the country that Lincoln was trying to avoid before he was killed. Things like carpetbagging were going unchecked and leaving people who just wanted to rebuild their lives with a strong sense of betrayal.

When any regime falls I imagine there would be holdovers who want to try to fight for the fallen empire (that's who the Knights of the Golden Circle were) but I was under the impression that Lincoln was accounting for that and would try to work against it had he been able to remain president in the post-war era.

Was at one time. We had a war about it over here.

The statue was put up decades after the British Empire abolished slavery.

Would you stop fucking insulting me? I'm trying to concede gracefully by explaining where I came from and how I accept that I'm wrong.

The only worthwhile apology you can give is to educate your fucking self.

Destruction of public property. Disgusting. That statue could've hurt someone too on top of that. No shame.

I wonder why your brain subconsciously and without any help from your political intentions allowed you to remember historical facts in the exact opposite to their reality in an effort to allow you to bat for slave owners.

I hope these statues end up in musuems rather than destroyed.

Destroying history even dark history is a shame.

The monuments werent so much to celebrate the figures but more as a f*** you to black people. Most of them were put up alongside Jim Crow laws, the founding of the NAACP, the 2nd resurgence of the KKK, & the Civil Rights movement. Many of them are not even worth keeping a museum.
