The hard reality is that wealth accumulates over generations, & poverty is self perpetuating. Whether it be slavery, Jim Crow, or the modern biases that exist within the system, black Americans have always been restricted in what they could do. This means any children they had, were also limited by what their parents could provide, & this carries on to the children of those children, generation after generation. This is why blacks are so disproportionately over represented in almost every definition of a "disadvantaged" community. Sure some manage to overcome such odds, but those are outliers.

If you seriously needed it explained to you, this is just one example of how oblivious some people can be to reality & the causality of events.

It wasn't meant to insult your intelligence, but there are just too many people who just can't understand why black Americans would still have trouble when "we ended slavery". They just seem to think the effects of +200 years of discrimination can magically vanish in a few decades.

This isn't quite true. Rural trailer parks and the inner city ghettos have far more in common with each other than they do with their own geopolitical neighbors.
