For example, seeing-eye and other service dogs are pretty smart, with thw ability to do a myriad of tasks for their human companions...but do you think they can be considered sapient? --- Super Smash Bros. Many vertebrates are conscious or sentient, they are aware. Koko the Gorilla showed this. she learned how to talk through sign language with people. and she said she understood that she was a gorilla. she had a famous quote that was something like "Koko fine animal gorilla" but yea, sapient means you have higher understanding of your existence beyond basic survival thoughts. you can reason. you can learn to communicate even if you can't audibly speak. you understand what species you are on some level in relation to the rest of the world. and you have awareness of your mortality and know you will die someday. most animals I think don't do that. they live in the present and don't think about the future <cite>Zikten posted [p:940183899] in Do you thi...
