That's probably the most tragic part. Plenty of racial injustices against blacks have happened before that blew up, but nothing on the scale of Floyd.

Some people still think George Floyd is the only reason it happened. People are idiots man. They got so many defence mechanisms shooting off in their head, they can't process the reality that maybe a lot of people they respected before are actually terrible people. Or they've live so much of their life as a bigot, coming to the realization now would doom them to living the rest of their life in depression over their newfound awareness.

I think it's a combination of this & the collapse of society as we know it already being in effect. Prior to this year, most people were afraid to go to these lengths because they had a lot more to lose; with unemployment skyrocketing & the economy taking such a toll as a result of the outbreak - on top of the video being so unambiguously damning on the MPD's part - people just weren't gonna sit idly by this time I guess.

Idk...not to downplay, diminish, or take away from what happened to him...however, I was personally far more disgusted by the cop who shot that black guy dead in his car, with his girlfriend sitting next to him. It was a routine traffic stop, and he didnt do anything wrong. The other one that made me sick to my stomach was that cop who murdered that 18y/o kid who was showing his pellet rifle to some friends while they were staying at a hotel. They stormed the hotel, and gave him conflicting commands, crying and begging the police not to shoot him, while crawling towards them, and the cop whos gun had YOURE FUCKED inscribed on the side loaded him full of lead, killing him instantly.

George Floyds wasnt particularly graphic, like the ones I exampled above, but the tone it setthe absolute disregard for a mans life while he begged dude to get off his neck, saying he couldnt breathe...that is just honestly so much of a perfect demonstration of how cops look at citizens they view as criminals, even when the person is no threat, and is 100% innocent to whatever it is theyre being accused of.

I think if it was a white guy under the cops knee, he wouldnt have moved either. I think that particular cop is just a giant piece of trash. Black people getting arrested seems to be much more well documented nowadays because of awareness black people tend to have on the potential for police to mistreat them. White people probably dont feel as threatened, so they dont film as much, but as a white guy, I have been harassed by police, handcuffed and wrongfully detained, had my car ripped apart multiple times, and been forced out of my car for no reason and forced to take sobriety tests while clearly not intoxicated in any way. Had I filmed one or two of those instances, or had bystanders filming for me, the cops involved may have had gotten in trouble. But...as a white dude, I had this false sense of security I guess, that they wouldnt fuck with me if I cooperated...I was wrong...and I no longer think that way. Nobody should think that way when approached by police. Its sad, but its true.
