Two Atlanta Police Department officers were fired Sunday after video showed them using "excessive force" against two college students during Saturday night's protests, Atlanta's mayor announced.

Officers were filmed in downtown Atlanta breaking the windows of the vehicle the two people were in, yanking a woman out of the car and tasing the man. Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields said she recognized the two as Spelman College and Morehouse College students. Both schools are historically black colleges in Atlanta.
"It was the worst experience of my life," said the woman, identified as Taniyah Pilgrim, 20. She said she and her friend Messiah Young, the man in the video, were riding home from protests when the incident took place.

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she was disturbed when she saw the video and ordered charges to be dropped against the man. The woman was not charged.
"As we watch the video today, it became abundantly clear immediately with the young woman that this force was excessive," Bottoms said. "It also became abundantly clear that the officer who tased the young man needed to be terminated as well."

One of the officers wrote in a police report that he used his taser because he was unsure whether Pilgrim or Young were armed.
"I heard officers say gun two-three times," the officer wrote. "Not being able to see the hands of the passenger and being that she was in my immediate sight I deployed my city issued taser to defuse the situation."

"99.9% of all cops are good!" Is starting to look like a bullshit statistic.

Officers get fired travel to other states and cities then get rehired by other Police Departments. You have to charge them with crimes to get real change. Racist Police Departments look at incidents of abuse as actually a badge of honor and credits on the resume, instead of a negative. The whole culture has to change

i mean hopefully those 2 at least will be.

Firing them is not enough, they will go down the street to a different precinct

I've never been tased before but wouldn't it be very difficult to do anything while being tased like that? If that is true, telling someone to "get their hands out their pockets" while being actively tased just seems insane to me. That's like tying up someone, throwing them in a river and telling them to swim.

Once again, I've never been tased before. I don't know how bad it is. I do remember seeing a video of someone standing upright, getting tased then instantly hitting the ground all stiffed up like a log.

In all honesty it seems to effect people differently, a few can just rip out the darts.

Public outrage has proven to work and make changes. We as gamers can confirm that. It usually takes a lot of time and outrage for things to change but there is always that boiling point.

Loot Boxes is a perfect example. The outrage got louder and louder. News outlets finally started to notice. Politicians finally started to notice and make laws. Now the practice of Lootboxes has come to a screeching halt. The boiling point was Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Law enforcement still needs to be abolished. Pretending to care just because of the current climate means nothing in the long run.

When a police officer uses excessive force, that means its outside of the scope of their job. When someone uses excessive force with no justification, they usually are charged with assault and battery. That's exactly what should happen here, and each and every time an officer uses excessive force. It should happen as standard procedure. The fact that its not is exactly why cities across the country are in upheaval.
