why is it suddenly okay to discriminate cops because of the actions of a few? imagine if people justified their discrimination towards black people because of the actions of a few black people... people would laugh them out the planet. yet it's okay to do it to cops?

The system is set up to absolve them. IMO, all cop interactions that end up in civilian death need to be investigated/prosecuted at a state level, not local. That might fix some of these issues where cops keep skating.

But discrimination is still bad either way. It's wrong to discriminate against a whole group just because there's a few people who happen to be a part of that group that do bad things. That's true whether you're talking about a race or religion, and it's true about cops. The bad cops need to be fired or thrown in jail when they abuse their power. I'm surprised and impressed by some of the pictures I'm seeing of cops taking a knee and joining peaceful demonstrations. While it's a little late for the desire for justice to outweigh the fear of losing one's career, it's a good example of using authority for good. I hope it continues, the good ones are vocal (finally) and we see some major reform.

There's over 900k police officers in the U.S. As terrible as Chauvin is, there are also very few who do anything remotely similar to what he's done. You could make a comparison to school teachers.

It's no secret that there are some teachers who commit statutory rape against their students. It makes the news often enough that we've all heard the stories. And when it happens, the teachers is fired and charged. People don't hate all teachers because a small amount abuse their authority (and nor should they). So we shouldn't be doing the same to cops.

Don't single out black people, it's definitely not just them. Just look at this whole board. A little while ago there was a poll asking if anybody thought cops were bad: all, most, some, or none. For a board supposedly "plagued" with alt-righters/trump supporters/conservatrolls/whatever bullshit, there was not single vote for none. Zero. Everybody on the right was lucid enough to realize that making judgments in extremes is for fools. Only a sith deals in absolutes. Conversely, guess which option got the most votes? That's right, ALL did, followed by most, even though both choices are clearly wrong. They make no secret that they want to abolish cops and let criminals do as they please.

the way CE dehumanizes people of color is very frustrating. I wish the mods weren't too busy shitposting to do something about it

Well, I'm sure that some of the bad cops might have had rough childhoods, but no. Managers/employers are to employees what parents are to children. It's their responsibility to train/raise them right so they don't fuck up and cause problems in the workplace/society that would lead to them getting in trouble with management/law enforcement.
