I think a lot of those types think that contrived nihilism automatically equals insightfulness. There's likely an element of projection too.

A similar thing was when they'd respond with "MUST CONSUME PRODUCT" to anybody disagreeing with their appraisals of idk star wars or some shit a few months back, as if they themselves weren't equally guilty of endlessly consuming product of some form.

All of that sounds like that mentality many teens/young adults have because they're young and stupid (we've all been there to some extent), but I have feeling a lot of those people there are probably in their 30's/40's by now and that's just silly.

Neither. The reddit post seems like they are trying to rekindle his childhood in a minor way. The 4chan post seems like a weird joke that only people who spend too much time on the internet would understand.

The 4chan post is criticizing how materialistic the Reddit poster is. Look at the pic:

Cigarettes - pleasure
Sugary cereal - pleasure
weed - pleasure
Cartoons - pleasure (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, haven't seen the show but there's always something to learn from someone else's story)

And even the reddit post itself, pleasure. He's posting it for the attention, giving himself that nice dopamine rush. Normally it's not bad thing, if you do it on occasion, and everyone has their vices anyway, but an excess of such activities fry your reward center and make it difficult to discipline yourself to do more difficult and rewarding things. Him bragging about him being an adult doing this makes him look ignorant about this.

And mind you, these types of attention seeking posts are heavily, heavily, discouraged on a number of boards, 4chan will be at your throat for posting something like this. If you want attention from them, best come up with something worth talking about; whether it's a good and original idea or unique content.

Honestly, it's best not to get 4chan's opinion on anything Reddit. They hate that site with the passion burning hotter than a 1000 suns. To the point where the business board coordinates misinformation campaigns on Reddit's big crypto boards because they're fed up with how gullible and easily manipulated they are to following the popular opinion.

4Chan is total cringe. I'm sure they are just trying to fit in over there, but really that just makes it even cringier. "Hey look guys, I too understand the meaninglessness of life and how stupid everyone else not us is for even bothering to continue their existence."
