i really enjoy the impact of realistic deaths in video games so I chose that mode.

anyways.

sylvain is the first to die. RIP lmao.

the characters appealed to me more but I realized they were more aligned with the church and I hate religion. So next playthrough Im going black eagles for sure

I havent finished all routes yet and i dont want to spoil anything, but the story is alright in all routes from what ive seen.

Go Golden Deer next then Black Eagles.

Or save Golden Deer for path four(five with dlc?) so you get the best song in the game as the last thing you hear

Some characters are morw important and dont die, and are instead permanently injured to the point they can no longer participate in combat.
Basically its just a copout because some characters are more involved in the story than others. Sylvain is one i think

Heavy spoilers for what mechanics are at play, but Sylvain isn't dead. He's too hurt to be combat-worthy though.

Im on classic so all my characters die permanently except byleth and dimitri

Characters don't die until a certain point. You can't use them in gameplay anymore but in story they're just permanently injured because they're needed for story scenes and no one wanted to write fifty versions of every single conversation for obvious reasons

the harder fire emblem leans into its story and characters with newer installments, the more it's at odds with the permadeath mechanic

tbh I think the more recent games it's probably best to not play permadeath for this reason
