Which would you pick?

Your hypothetical office or apartment is on the 30th Floor of its building, and you can choose to have a window view that is looking inward towards the city, or you have have one looking the opposite direction, towards a large body of water that may or may not have land on the other side (such as a lake or ocean).

I ask because my work building has a similar setup but with a river (so it's technically city on either side), though it only goes up 20 floors. Most people seem to want the water view, but a few like the city view.

In your case, probably the city side. I dunno if I would be able to see the interesting stuff in a river from 20 floors high, and it's not as interesting as the ocean anyway. Unless there are regular boaters or something.

In my city's case, part of the appeal likely comes from the fact that the land on the other side of the river is a different country (Canada). Also, my building is close to but also far enough from the river that you still get a great view even from that high up, and there is also moderate activity in the river.

Ah, then yeah, probably the river.
