wtf, how do you adapt less than a chapter an episode? Like do they have 5 minutes of new content and the rest is recaps, openings and endings?

No joke there have been episodes that were only ~12 minutes long after all of that. Now it's just packed with long stare downs and reaction shots.

The artstyle has improved a lot lately for the anime, but the snail's pacing is still the same that it has been for the past several hundred episodes. It's just an unsolvable mechanism for being on a weekly schedule with an exact time amount to hit.

The best version of the series requiring Americans to read a lot definitely didn't take allow it to take off in popularity. And at this point just the sheer scale of the series is enough to turn away a lot of people who, regardless of the medium, don't want to commit to it.

i mean there was a lot of good stuff, but there was a lot of excess, and not in a good way.

Cutting it down could have made it one of the best arcs in the series

Though i recognize that there are a lot of people who love it
i like it, i don't outright dislike any One Piece arc

but Dressrosa really tried my patience at points

and most of the arc is done without half the crew

Design-wise Naruto and Bleach are much easier to sell IMO. Bleach especially. One Piece tends to go overboard with wacky designs...like I can get the Fish people, Chopper,...but wtf is Ivankov supposed to be?

@fusespliff Ivankov is meant to be Frank 'N' Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show

Because westerners romanticize ninjas and samurai to death and anime nerds love the generic anime art style and edgelord shit like Akatsuki/Sasuke/early Gaara/half of Bleachs cast/etc. They also hate (perceived) kids shows and censorship.

Basically, it had everything stacked against it.

One Piece has a rocky start. I've tried and failed to get people to watch it because the first 15-30 episodes are antiquated ass. And they just think, "god, 900 more episodes of this? I'm out".

Naruto and Bleach start off strong, though. The first 60 episodes of Bleach are incredible.

Rather then going the route of filler episodes when they caught up with the manga the One Piece anime instead just adapted each chapter into an episode. Yet really three or four manga chapters can make a single episode. As a result the pacing was crap. Still That's better then years worth of pointless filler like Naruto.

I disagree somewhat.
When watching on a week by week basis most of Naruto/Bleach's filler is painful to sit through for sure. But people rewatching/newcomers can easily use a guide to skip all that. One Piece forces you to fast forward through episodes in order to get a somewhat decently paced plot. I don't need to see every single character's "myfacewhen" each and every time something happens.
