It's just an unsolvable mechanism for being on a weekly schedule with an exact time amount to hit. The best version of the series requiring Americans to read a lot definitely didn't take allow it to take off in popularity. And at this point just the sheer scale of the series is enough to turn away a lot of people who, regardless of the medium, don't want to commit to it. --- move all remaining groundhog mercenaries to the front lines. And they just think, "god, 900 more episodes of this? I'm out". Naruto and Bleach start off strong, though. When watching on a week by week basis most of Naruto/Bleach's filler is painful to sit through for sure. But people rewatching/newcomers can easily use a guide to skip all that.
