I'd actually be interested if the movie about a spy was actually, you know, a spy movie. The trailer looked like it will just be another cgi battle fest.

It's sort of a Captain Marvel situation, trying to squeeze in a new character (Nat's successor Yelena Belova) that has "been around this whole time" to make them seem more "official" instead of a random new replacement showing up.

Idk, it's not like you can immediately escalate things, seems like a good move if anything

Spider-Man: Far From Home is part of the Infinity Saga IIRC

wow that's really stupid if so considering it's barely even tangentially related

It makes sense as kinda an epilogue to everything

Like "hey the world carried on after the events of Endgame, let's all just cool off"

I'm with you. Kinda weird to kick off the next phase with a character who won't show back up
It's also weird since her whole sendoff in Endgame would have paired well with this movie, if the movie had come out before Endgame and we got to learn more about her.

But really what sucks about the whole thing is that ScarJo is a great actress and yet she phones it in constantly as Black Widow. Doesn't help that the trailers make the movie look as generic and boring as ever, if it didn't have the MCU connection it'd be relegated to the straight-to-DVD bin

I mean, the key issue is that what can you follow it with? They've hit the same issue the comic books did, once you've got to "entire universe could get destroyed if the bad guy clicks his fingers!" then there isn't really anywhere to escalate to and you end up just having to reboot the universe

Yeah, if she survived and this was a continuation, I'd be fine. Or at least squeezing in the movie somewhere after Civil War and before Infinity War, or at least Endgame.

They snubbed her for years and then killed her off, and then finally gave her a movie that takes places almost a decade before in the timeline.

Honestly, if we're going back in the timeline, her 5 years running the Avengers seems like a better period.

True, but I think they could use Galactus as the next big lead-up villain.

Ideally something that follows it in the timeline about a character that's actually still living

I'm not trying to suggest that the next movie has to already be setting up the next huge cosmic threat, but the placement of this movie is just fucking odd.

That's not what happened in the comics and PLENTY of great stories came out after Infinity Gauntlet, which happened in the 80s. Marvel didn't reboot anything. You don't need to go bigger to have a compelling storyline.

Yelena Belova is in the movie. She's extremely likely to be the new Black Widow for the new wave.
