People are too comfortable with becoming dependent on alcohol to be social imo. I get it, I just wish they'd be more upfront about it.

Plus, if you don't look young, you're already at the sad age for the club if you're not rich or famous.

Smoking's been falling out of good social graces for like three decades. Sure there are places like hookah bars, and cannabis bars have been sprouting up in places where it's legal, but you certainly don't "need" to be doing that stuff as part of your social circle.

Social drinking... is important, but at this point (you're in your 30s), it's less about getting hammered and more about understanding drinking etiquette. Just simple stuff like knowing how to order a drink and having a couple go-to cocktail/beers so you're always ready to order - that's pretty important, as is knowing how to limit yourself.

What kind of people are you trying to socialize with? A majority of males socialize with drinks, so drinking would help you fit in to a lot of situations, but is not required. Smoking (cigarettes) has mostly fallen out of favor where I'm from in the U.S. and smoking marijuana would help you socialize with people who also smoke, but once again it is not required. Find people with common interests and go at it. Quit complaining.

If that's not your current personality then guess what, you don't deserve her, because she will have her pick of hundreds of other men who will actually make an effort to be interesting, funny and offer a fulfilling relationship.

My best bud does neither. We go out to bars and clubs all the time. Socially, he has the upper hand because he will always have his wits about him.
