Current Events > Reminder that Wind Waker is one of the most incomplete Nintendo games ever

The Great Sea is pointlessly big, well over half of it is padding (copy/pasted towers, fairy islands, reefs, etc.), we know for a fact that at least 2 dungeons were cut (leaving us with 5, barely half of Ocarina of Time's 9), we know Greatfish Isle was originally planned to be an area on par with Dragonroost and the Forest Sanctuary but was scrapped, and the Triforce quest is one of the most obvious instances of padding in a game I have ever seen. Game does not deserve all the praise it gets by any means.

this describes my feelings about wind waker.

the first 5-7 hours are great then you fall into padding and an empty ocean that was boring as fuck to explore and tedious. Its like they wanted to make an open world that was bigger than OoT, quit 1/2 way through and said fuck it fill it with water.

And you don't have to do so in Wind Waker.

EDIT: Also, Wind Waker has like 7 dungeons. The Fortress (first visit), Dragonroost, The Forest, The Temple, The Fortress (Second visit), The ghost one, The wind one, and Hyrule Castle. If you don't count the second visit to the Fortress, then 6, but not 5.

I think people really look at the Gamecube era with rose tinted glasses at times. Nintendo were really struggling with some stuff. Mario Sunshine had some development issues too and it can be felt in the final game. It's just not as tight as the other games.

Sometimes it paid off with stuff like Metroid Prime though.

All zelda games don't really deserve the heaps of praise they get.

That said, I do like them. And wind waker was one of my favorites. It has it's flaws. It does have less dungeons, and they're all pretty......simple, which is fine, it's for kids.

But i loved the style and vibe of the game. Sure sailing got old eventually but I had fun with it for awhile. And by the time it's getting really tedious you can get the ballad of gails to eliminate most of it.

WW and BotW are the two best Zelda games and they happen to be the most un-Zeldalike games in the franchise. Weird how that works.

WW and BOTW are easily the best 3D Zelda titles.

Let's be fair, all 3D Zelda games are pretty barren besides maybe 1 or 2 towns. At least in WW and BOTW it totally makes sense.

In Wind Waker, the Great Sea consists of a 7x7 grid of tiles that each contain 1 island or archipelago many, many, MANY times smaller than the tiles themselves. To fill out your map, you have to buy bait, roll out to each and every single island in the game, and bait out a fish to fill in just that tile at each one. You essentially have to travel the length of 49 tiles (even a single tile can take a long fucking time to traverse, and you have to make sure the wind's going in the right direction) with absolutely nothing interesting happening.

Major content being cut from Windwaker is well known and public knowledge.

BOTW got more time in the oven to wait for the Switch launch.
