1] Mastering a class seems to take forever. This wouldn't be an issue if I didn't want to catch levels in the lower classes. Better growth latter on

2] Weapon Rankings take forever as well, it seems.

3] Why does my mounted healer need to be good with axes?! Where are my Troubadours?

4] Maybe the level cap is higher than I think it is, but I'm not getting Top-Tier Classes until Level 40, which leaves me, what, 10 levels in them?

In my experience, most characters won't get to that last set of classes, or only for the last couple missions. Some of the class mastery abilities are worth lingering for, others not so much.

The game doesn't really punish you too much for not maxing out every possibility along the way

You don't need to master a class to get another one, and you don't need the required weapon rank to advance class, you can just get lucky.

And are you taking advantage of lessons, goals and the statues?

One of the faults I can give to the system is that you can't actually see the requierements for the last tier classes until later, so you can get screwed if you didn't plan in advance.
