Well for one, I didn't mention the AR-15 or AK-47. But they aren't unwieldy. It takes more training to shoot a pistol quickly and accurately than a long gun with a stock. Are you saying that if two guys break into your home, possibly with guns, you're better off with nothing? At least with an AR, you can shoot back and maybe scare them off. I have my grandfather's shotgun and my dad's old .22, both of which I inherited. Then I have a Mossberg 12-gauge that's good general-purpose (I view shotguns as practical firearms) and a S&W .357 which is my trail gun (you do, occasionally, run into bears hiking. Might not stop one, but might dissuade it). I don't shoot all that often, but I do take them out to the farm and keep in practice a couple times a month, a lot of the cousins so.
