It has the most standard JRPG plot of standard JRPG plots.

That's literally the only complaint you could have with it. It's your typical JRPG with the mechanics refined to quite possibly as close to perfection as you can get. The only people I can imagine not liking DQXI are the people who don't like JRPGs in general.

So if you like JRPGs, you'll love it. If you don't, it won't make you a fan.

Boring as fuck and reminds me exactly why I hate classic rpgs. Turn based menu based static combat needs to die in a fire. I think less of anyone over the age of 13 that plays them honestly. The genre hasn't changed in literal decades, so one who plays it is essentially playing the same base game with different story and characters over and over again.

I hope to God you can't procreate. Get rid of your goddamn complacency and do something different, get outside your comfort zone, go the fuck outside. Do something with your goddamn life.

honestly this

part of this is entirely subjective however. i do not like the removal of actual "turn" based combat in favor of choosing each action individually when its their turn in the order. i miss making decisions at once and watching it play out. the new system basically never lets you breathe because the battle is always in the middle of a turn. admittedly it has its obvious benefits, previous games often had you better off setting your healers to AI controlled because they had the ability to react and heal in the midst of a turn playing out. that's not an issue in XI, but i still prefer the more proactive system to the reactive one, and i really wish they at least had the option to switch between the two. (2D mode does have the old system, but i really had no interest in playing the whole game in that mode)

my biggest problem is the world design tho. it's basically a series of small scale, segmented areas that feel incredibly video-game-y. there's tons of artificial and arbitrary boundaries, where previous games mostly used natural terrain like mountains to convey its accessible areas. the towns are still great tho
