I get that these style of games are supposed to have a fake ending and more to do after.

But this one just gets dull AF once you've gotten far enough to "beat" it. It I intrigued up to the point where you fight Hornet at the Kingdom's Edge, but now the game just feels like it put itself on life support, forcing me to scan every map to see which one might have a door I haven't gone into, finding it's just a mask shard as a reward, or an easy boss I overlooked the first time. Fetch quests and delivery quests where you can't get hit?

And no hints on how to progress the actual story. *smh* Should I even bother finishing it, or have I had the Hollow Knight experience?

I literally stopped playing right at the Hollow Knight fight towards the end of the main story. I just didn't get into the game like other did, I suppose. I didn't hate it at all. And I think it looks beautiful, controls well, and I never had any glitches that I can recall. The world is somewhat lacking in NPCs like Dark Souls, but just like Dark Souls the story explains why. I very quickly had way more money than I needed.

The horrible checkpoints almost made me give up entirely.

Sometimes youd have to take a 10 minute journey through a hard ass area to get back to a boss that destroys you in 30 seconds...so basically you could die on the way back to getting your money back and lose everything.

And by the time you get the Dream Gate which allows you to set a custom checkpoint, you dont fucking need it anymore.

This one honestly isn't too bad until the very end when the room is guarded by thorns. Try to kill all the enemies on the way there and don't rest at a bench, since that respawns most of them. Now if you're talking about delivering the delicate flower to the Godmaster DLC guy then nvm.

Also it sounds like you just don't like Metroidvania's so I'm not sure what made you want to try Hollow Knight. Your comment about "fake endings" gets even worse when you realize what you have to do to get the Godmaster one. I'd like to think I'm good at Hollow Knight after getting my save to 110%, but I'll never be good enough for that one holy shit.

I explicitly go after games of this play style. This one just fizzles out at the end. Bloodstained gives you new areas to explore AFTER the fake ending. Symphony of the Night does this. All of the well made ones basically, this one just tells you to look harder for a room or two you haven't visited per map.

No, you guys just aren't understanding. There's no reason for the game to turn itself into a chore at the end just to squeeze more hours out of the player so it can boast a long playthrough.

it being a chore or not is a matter of personal preference --- the pantheons are the closest to a chore I found in this game...

It doesn't become a chore though. I think Hollow Knight gets even better towards the end because the best part of the game is the boss fights. And chances are, that's the point in the game where you're going through most of them.

If you don't like the game, you just don't like it. So I would say you're better off stopping since it's clearly not a game for you.

I have experienced most of the boss fights and now when I run across bosses I steamroll them because my Nail is OP. No, now the game is requiring I run around areas I've already explored aimlessly. It is a chore.

FYI, I got one half of the white mask. And **** off with telling me what style of games I like. You might be content wasting your entire day on this, but I require more to hold my attention.

This isn't the best example when the second to last area is just a previous one, but zoomed in and more red. I played RotN too, but the performance was so bad on my standard Xbone that I quit my second playthrough when the game crashed yet again during an area transition. I was also disappointed by the roguelike mode being canceled, so being a crowdfunded game of the same genre it just looks worse and worse in my eyes when I look back at it.

I'm glad I didn't play it on my Switch like Hollow Knight, which I hear was even worse <_<

Oh and I second what Kildread said about the Grimm Troupe bosses. The second boss is one of my favorite parts about the game.

Are you talking about how you can hit their corpses with the light sword and fight them again?

I have actually only done that to one boss, but I don't know which ones to backtrack to in order to do it again, and again, it's a chore for me to traverse every room in the game looking for boss rooms to see if there is a body for me to hit.

You should have done Grimm Troupe. Missed out on the best fight in the game.

Also Godmaster has some unique fights as well, but it's definitely too difficult for me.

There are those plus a bunch of ghosts scattered around you may or may not have fought. And then there are just some side bosses and bosses related to the add-ons such as the Grimm Troupe. And of course since you only just beat Hornet 2 there are a couple more story bosses.

I agree. Probably didn't help that the game was beyond overhyped to me but I don't think it ultimately had anything to do with my feelings about it. And careful, this game doesn't have a fanbase, so much as a cult. They'll insult you to hell and back if you dare say anything bad about it.

i agree with you. i beat like ... the third type of boss? second? i dunno. then i realized there were even more hidden bosses just scattered around after you go through the same areas over and over again.

that's when i called it. i 'beat' it three times already, good enough for me. enjoyed the game but not that much.
