Yeah, I put over 100 hours into it, but I pretty much avoided all combat once I got to the point of having too many weapons I wasn't using. It's still a fabulous game, but balancing the combat definitely should be a focus of the sequel.

Eh, the combat in BotW is fine. Dodge is also broken when mastered. Swordplay is dumbed down from older 3D LoZ games though which hurts it, but the ways you can tackle battles is a bit more freeform due to some of the options you have available which helps keep things interesting.

It's really awesome how you have a 100% chance of being struck by lightning in any storm if you have something metal on you. It's a ton of fun to keep stopping what you are doing to swap out all of your equipment. I really loved that part of the game.

At least that mechanic is fair. Enemies get shocked too.

Weapon durability is one sided as fuck though.

It's technically in, you just have to be falling from a longer height before attacking. Link will thrust the sword downward like he does in Zelda 2.

I think we are dealing with people that just aren't very creative. Min/maxers who just auto dodge every fight. Yeah, once you get good it's easy. But I couldn't beat a Lynel first. Every enemy has different patterns/attacks. I think the combat is fine. It's better than like, the Witcher 3, Skryim, the more recent Assasins Creed games...

Earlier stages when I didn't have much stamina and I worked like 20 mins to get up a mountain and then it started raining would legit make me rage quit for a couple days. There are so many little issues like this that made me think this was just a decent game at best.

The motion controlled shrine puzzles were infuriating also, the one with the ball labyrinth and then at the end you had to flip it up onto the platform made me want to break my Switch.

Pretty much all of them. Besides rotate stick spin attack, Link can't freely choose which way to swing his sword and other melee weapons in BotW, so he can't even thrust his sword stab attacks. In OoT, MM, TWW, TP and SS you could though, so BotW's swordplay / melee weapon attack variety is definitely a step back.

When's the last time you played OoT? I played it just after beating BoTW, and tbh, I was immediately struck by how dull the fighting was in OoT.

Not that it's a fair comparison, given the age, but still. BoTW lacked some things, but never did I feel like the combat was dull.

The combat in every single one of those games is braindead and aside from SS there's not a single instance where it actually matters which way you swing your sword.

That's of course assuming what you're saying is even accurate. BotW has far greater emphasis on vertical approaches, throwing weapons, and mounted combat than any of the other previous games.

I played OoT a few years ago. Anyway, I never said BotW's combat was dull or bad, I just said it's swordplay is inferior to most other 3D LoZ games which seems to be the case. Please read next time.

Haha I guess. But 0.5/10 depth isn't much better than 0.25/10 depth if you know what I mean. It could be twice as deep, but the bar is already so low it doesn't matter.

Wolf Link gets his ass beaten and you have to let him recharge for a day once he dies. Just having him and the horse around makes traveling Hyrule more fun.

Handling? You mean the attacks the other weapons have? They are incredibly limited in use. Also once you get the fully powered Master Sword, if you purchased the DLC, there is little reason to use any other melee weapon.

The question you should really be asking yourself is "If I can do something like that, why can't I freely choose which way to swing my swords / greatswords, or event thrust it forward?"
