Homer is a dad who tries his best. Always has his heart in the right places but messes up sometimes. Instead of a selfish idiot

Lisa is a normal kid. Has friends and fits in fine at school. Shes just the voice of reason instead of outcast know it all.

Bart is a misunderstood kid. Tries his best but just isnt getting the right kind of attention. Just needs a little push in the right direction. Instead of the bad idiot he becomes later.

i know the big thing is how bad homer changed but almost all the characters had a lot more depth

It's a trap a lot of shows fall into. Everyone gets so exaggerated that they almost seem like different characters. I think the only show that had that work for it was It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

It's a transition almost every series will go through. Certain parts stand out & just dominate the franchise until thee original point is alien by comparison.

Yeah. I miss when they were a genuine family with values and love for each other. They would tell stories that would tug at your heart strings and make you really care about the characters. Then it basically devolved into "I wonder what wacky, unrealistic adventures Homer and Bart will get into this week?"
