you do a poll and prove it, your logic and basic reasoning are basically that everyone thinks like you. Do a poll right now and prove it if youre so confident. Its not on me to prove it, that my dude, lies with you.

If you really wanna tell yoursef that most people are acutely aware of menu prices at various establishments and have commited them to memory thats cool.

Its weird and its not the case but im perfectly fine with you choosing to believe it.

They have to let people know before serving them. Basic salesmanship that they failed to execute.

Or at least have a visible sign at the door.
I've been advocating posting the sales tax rate right on the door for several years now.

Raise the prices, people feel like they are being duped with fees and surcharges.

let me put it another way: people notice when prices go up. How about that? Whether or not they know exact prices like me, whos to say?

but yes I do believe people notice these things. To throw out a basic blanket statement of yes people wont notice the raised prices is some what of a bizarre thing to say. It just shows unawareness to me.

They could always just round up/down though to replicate the .99 and .49 though
True enough but then again it wouldn't be the same as a 5% surcharge anymore.

I have no problem with it so long as they're up front about it before the customer sits down. Don't like it don't eat there.

Can't you just look your state's sales tax rate online though?
Huh... I wonder if a phone app for that would be viable.

most people dont go to a restaraunt every few days let alone always the same one or two spots. Nor do they always order the same thing.

so how are they gonna remember the prices exactly?

I doubt my friend who has been a server at the same pub for like ten years could tel you exact prices for most of the menu.

sure man. Sure.
Me and my friends usually remember the prices at our most visited places. We even remember how much it's gone up for places we've been going for decades.

I totally get it, and I'll have to raise rent on my units next semester almost assuredly due to some lost revenue this year, but specially labeling it as a Covid-19 surcharge does come of kind of lacking in tact unless identified very obviously in advance.
Weren't you posting about making tens of millions yesterday? You can't take a little loss?

Where exactly do these businesses think we are getting all of this money? Like I said, most people were out of work for 30-60 days and have to pay every bit of their bills and rent. What makes businesses think that we can afford to have prices raised on us?

Its basically just kicking someone while theyre down.

Going out to eat is a luxury and the business owners are just following the basic law of supply and demand. They're not going to operate at a loss just because you feel entitled.

Like others said you wouldnt even notice the change that way.

Also how the fuck many different menus you want them to get printed?

the obvious and simple solution is what they did. They just need to make people aware of it in advance.

I don't think people are mad that prices went up. They're mad that a surcharge they didn't know about was added. When I order from Uber Eats, prices on the individual menu items are often more expensive than if I went to dine in, but that's okay because I still know what I'm paying first and not until after I eat it.

It would be better to raise the menu prices, but replacing the menus could also be a cost the restaurant may not want to incur. Which if that happens the restaurant needs to be very clear about the extra fee.

Just post a sign on the door about the charge.

Aunt Rona is a bitch. Most small businesses operate barely in the black if at all, even when there isn't a crisis of every kind happening. But Rona doesn't give any more craps if they survive than she does if you do.

Not really. Is it shitty to not post it up on the door? Sure. But this country is full of anti-consumer practices and it seems odd that is the one that people suddenly care about.

People can be such insufferable narcissists sometimes.

"Reopen the economy so we can go eat at restaurants again! We need to support small restaurateurs and get back to normal!"

::sees $1 surcharge on bill to mitigate overall price increase on menu items::

"Fuck you you greedy restaurant owner tryin' ta take advantage of me! Rot in hell you greedy bastards!"

well some people are out of work. We reopen and stop worrying so much and getting crazy over something that will never go away. It will never have a vaccine because it mutates to quickly since it's a Corona virus. The only answer is herd immunity and it's the one conveniently ignored. You think with a "highly transmittable" disease we are gonna magically get 0 new cases somehow? Even if statistically we happen to there's no telling how many still have it and pass it on and since so many people don't feel symptoms that will happen. So it's not going anywhere. So we either get up and do shit or I guess just stay in the house forever? We don't want any risks in our lives apparently. Eliminate all of them.
