Pretty proud of myself so I'm going to my third and final course and when that's done I'll be going for the cert. I definitely need more training, more practice, more hands-on work and I need a personal mentor as well. What I want to learn and do well is mainly manipulation and learn how to use SQL to automate things.

I went to local community college, found the courses and took it.

Any kind of data analysis job, not really sure. I don't deal with databases all that much since our company's client software supports and does all that for us but like any other IT job it's best to start with a Help Desk position.

I'd keep it going with a focus, you can get real nice jobs with it but it has to have some focus for specific kinds of tasks. sorry if that's not helpful, you're further along than I am but I have seen it where people have the skills but don't really use them in their job and get rusty with no extra pay.

well, it sounds like you're in the right space and you know what you need to do. there used to be a part of LinkedIn where you can request guidance from professionals on certain skills so I'd look into that if you're cold on contacts.

You can never go wrong learning SQL, or at least basic SQL with a focus on searching a database. It can potentially be used in IT, and even non IT jobs.

I have no idea how someone actually becomes a DBA however. That's one of the fields were it seems like to be a DBA, you must already be a DBA. You're just born as one lol.

My IT Director kinda promised me his position when he retires but I dunno how real that will be but I would love it. Tired of dealing with end users of all levels from all department. I wanted to learn a programming language but that stuff is much tougher than it looks so I went with learning SQL instead. I don't mind restarting as a JR SQL DBA.

It's a Microsoft SQL Certification course. It's easy to get good grades, you use all the resource they give you. The hardest part if prolly getting proper work experience to get you a job.
