Its flawed but I still consider it a good game. It does trade too much of its traditional roots for new mechanics, but overall I think it had many positives. Despite the over world being barren in certain areas, I still think its provably the best over world next to the great sea and Termina. I found that the various settlements and towns to be in just the right places as to not get too bland, and each one offered its own unique style and surroundings. I think I enjoyed it much more towards the end because I took a lengthy break and jumped back in with a final trip around the map. Exploring the main and side roads on foot led me to finding some obscure things I never wouldve found had I just glided everywhere or quick traveled.

For me personally, yes. But that's just an opinion, no more no less. Just like everything else you'll read here. It's the only game I've ever played as an adult that felt absolutely magical and captivated me completely once I got into it. I already feel nostalgic towards it, and nostalgia is literally something I only feel towards the SNES and N64 games I grew up with. All that while I actually prefer Mario as a series, due to their replay value and how it's just action without some silly stories and without constant cut-scenes. Loved Odyssey, but BotW was just from another level to me.

In any case, the reason it's winning, is simply because of the strength of the franchise and its reputation. I'm actually surprised, I thought Witcher would rake in the votes thanks to the tv show.

I wouldnt put it in my top 10 list for this contest. Maybe top 15.
This is a Zelda game not even making 60/40 votes in Japan...against a western game...

Zelda was never particularly popular in Japan. I doubt it would be in a top 10 there.

Best game/movie/song/book etc. is fucking pointless, because it's all very temporary, while one day this is the best, the other day something else will be the best.
