Is it appropriate to bring an automatic rifle to the grocery store?

Legality in any area aside, is it appropriate?

As a staunch advocate for 2A rights, I believe showing off like that just because you can is irresponsible. For one, youre not going to unsling a rifle and ready it before someone can knife you or produce a handgun. Secondly, it makes you stand out as a target for potential shooters. Theyre going to take out immediate threats before anyone else.

You don't really need to state "automatic", since the majority of legal rifles here in the US are not fully automatic and few individuals have the NFA paperwork to legally own one.

What you probably meant to say was "semi automatic", but even then the semantics are pointless cause why would you bring any rifle into a grocery store?

I disagree. I think that a criminal with a handgun doesn't want to get into a shootout with a guy with a rifle if he can avoid it. Criminals like soft targets. If it was a mass shooter who came there specifically to kill, then yeah, he'd take out that guy first. But is that really the most common scenario?

Oh I was definitely speaking in the extreme sense here, but carrying a rifle is nothing, but a look at me deal. The purpose of carrying in public is for self defense. Just carry a big bore revolver if you need to show off...big enough to notice, but still practical enough to use.

What about an 18-20 year old who can't buy a pistol, but can buy a rifle or shotgun? Does their right to personal protection matter?
