I believe most vaccines take 10-15 years to develop if they even manage to develop them in the first place

wow so odd to learn that all this time they've been giving annual flu vaccines for strains from 10-15 years ago, seems kind of pointless tbh

It is related to other Coronaviruses so they should be able to use a majority of that knowledge.

AFAIK, it's only related to SARS / MERS (the deadlier coronaviruses), but it's still a different virus.

the process to weaken/attenuate the virus through inoculation of chicken eggs took years to come up with, now that they have the process they just burn through 10mil+ eggs each year making more and more vaccine.

and no, before you ask, its not as simple as taking covid and injecting it into eggs...

the vaccine that everyone is focused on right now, the one they're claiming could be out in 18 months, is an RNA vaccine which is functionally different from any vaccine on the market for humans right now. traditional vaccines use weakened pathogens or dead pathogenic parts to stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies. RNA vaccines are specifically designed/written lengths of messenger RNA, which within cells act as like a copy of a blueprint for replicating a required protein, that have been coded to produce antibodies that specifically target an antigen site on the targeted pathogen. these vaccines are supposed to work by injecting RNA into the body that could then be uptaken by immune cells and used to directly produce antibodies without having to go through the traditional form of vaccine inoculation.

this idea is pretty much untested in humans. its been used in animals, i think there's a rabies vaccine for dogs that uses this method, but animal immune systems do not work the same way ours does. so its a crapshot. the vaccine could work really well, it could do absolutely nothing at all, or in a worst case scenario it could actually make the immune response worse.

and if the RNA vaccine fails the 18 month timeline is out the window.

because the attenuation process is going to be different for each pathogen, and sometimes its really fucking weird. for example, if i remember correctly the rabies vaccine was originally made with weakened virus that was 'cultured' twice within rabbit brain, and if i'm not mistake if they passed it through a third brain it became virulent again...

Youre trying to be sarcastic but thats 100% legit the counter argument. They cant even get the normal flu vaccine right from year to year.
