Which game is better?

We all know it's coming down to these two games anyway. No point waiting. Let's just get the end result now.

The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

Since this is just a question of which game is better Witcher 3 no contest whatsoever. Vastly better world, characters, sidequests, story, etc. BotW isnt gonna lose on ZeldaFAQs short of a miracle though.

agree on characters quest, story and such

but the world itself in Zelda is far superior. Witcher's world is just window dressing like 99% other open world games.

What makes BotWs pointlessly huge empty world any better? Its just a sandbox with an LoZ paint job. Its the most boring game world Ive ever experienced in an open world game

I got legit lost in Witcher's open world

Was on Skelleige (sp) and ended up having to swim island to island like a crap out 'cause I wasn't sure which direction would actually get me to mainland safely

That's organic and emergent gameplay right there

Breath of the Wild but Witcher is close.

Witcher's world is much more lively and immersive but BOTW's gameplay > Witcher 3's.

I couldn't care less about BOTW's inhabitants. Any random Witcher side quest was better than BOTW's whole story.

If CDProjektRed get the gameplay right, it's gonna be over.

Zelda is a benchmark for open world design in that it made the world itself meaningful for gameplay. when it rains, it gets harder to climb and metallic objects might attract lightning strikes (which can be used in your favor), when you go to a cold area you have to find a way to warm yourself, every wall is climbable, Trees can be felled, grass can be put on fire which can then spread with the proper wind direction. all the puzzles can be solved in a multitude of creative ways involving the game physics

you may prefer the more story focused approach of Witcher, but BotW isn't the consensus Game of decade for no reason (scroll down to where they compiled the "best of decade" lists across gaming media and you'll see Zelda won by a landslide)

Fortnite is above Bloodborne on that list I don't got no reason to entertain that

Most of those were just annoyances to me. Sure its neat, but it just made me hate playing the game whenever it rained and it rained a LOT in my playthrough. Im aware its a game tons of people orgasm over and think is amazing, but I didnt like it much. I started out liking it a lot, but sadly I just got increasingly bored with it. Once I finished my first DB It was basically all downhill

Played both. Loved both, but Witcher is the better game overall. I have no doubts BotW will win though.

If we're skipping the filler we can skip this match too cause it won't be close!

I have to vote BotW cause I haven't played W3 yet but I'm not as high on BotW as everyone else. I bought a Switch specifically for it but ended up enjoying Odyssey more.

It's not pointless. It made the exploration much more amazing, and the entire game is was unbelievably impressed that you can pretty much climb and access everything in sight.

I used to love opeen world games, but grew tired of the genre. I can't even play Witcher anymore now due to how limiting it feels compared to Zelda.

To each his own, these games are greatly different experiences. One is not objectively better than the other. I'd be surprised if Zelda wins though, due to the hype surrounding Witcher right now, cause of the tv show.

BotW is overrated. Basically take an open barren field, fill it with trees, copy/paste 120 shrines, 4 dungeons, and you have the formula for this "game".

The only part of the game that was actually original and enjoyable was Hyrule Castle. It was probably the first thing they worked on and where all of the creativity was exhausted.

I'd say Hyrule Castle saved the game for me, but it's hardly comparable to the likes of Witcher 3.

If you don't like exploring, then you probably don't like BotW. The world is a dream for anyone who enjoys wandering around in nature - which is what the original idea of this series is based on. BotW takes that original idea and elevates it to the level it's meant to be at. It's a perfect modern representation of what the Legend of Zelda is.

The only good things in BotW's entire open world are the shrine quests (aka the few cases where you have to actually interact with the world in a unique, thought out way to summon a shrine) and that one part in the Great Plateau where you have almost no tools and you can cut down a tree to serve as a bridge.

The game's physics and mechanics are absolutely god tier so its very easy to mistake having lots of rocks to throw, hills to climb and mountains to glide from for having a great open world, but the world itself is utterly barren of thoughtful design.

I'm a couple hours into Witcher and starting to enjoy it more, but I'm surprised as to just how different it and Zelda are. They really don't feel like the same genre.

Btw, Zelda might feel a little more boring if you just rush every enemy with the same melee combo and don't experiment with the world's ridiculous chemistry/physics system.

There's nothing to do.

You can (and I did!) solve an electric conduction puzzle in one of the divine beasts by properly lining up a ton of dropped metal equipment to skip the intended path entirely and just manually rigging your own electric current. The amount of room for creativity and ways you can just play(!) around are incredible.

If BotW2 manages to add an actually good world to go with all of that amazing stuff, it might actually be the perfect video game. Like, my absolute dream game is basically BotW but dotted with no less than 5 major towns that each have the depth and character of Clock Town.

There's nothing to do.

All the weird physics stuff in BotW that people do is great, but that's not how I play games. It's legitimately more fun to see other people do this stuff than for me personally to fuck around in a structureless sandbox.
