Good thing you didn't put in the other Michael or else it'd be a shut out.
Mike Tyson was huge in the 80s, and if everything went right after February 1990 I'd say him, so Tyson had about 3-4 years of being a huge figure in sports. Jordan didn't take over in basketball till 91? and he lasted through most of the 90s on top minus the year or so missed trying to play baseball. So for longevity,I'd say Jordan. --- "I know how the business works because I'm a wrestling fan"-hulkhogan1 ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'd argue that George Foreman has more global popularity than Tyson thanks to his branding/line of electric grills.

It's tough. I've seen Tyson referenced in a few manga, but I know that Michael "Joudan" is a stock bad joke in Japan too.

Michael Jordan during the peak of his playing days was always said to be Mickey Mouse-level recognizable globally. ~17 years past his playing days of course that's faded away, but I don't think Tyson has ever been anywhere close to him in this regard.

Boxing was HUGE worldwide when Tyson was on top, which wasnt THAT long ago. Basketball was mostly North American at the time, and even during Jordans prime, the rest of the world lagged so far behind, just look at the 92 olympics.
