I literally drink almost a 30 pack a day. I feel like shit and I can actually feel my kidneys and liver hurt.

But I can't stop. The fuck is wrong with me and can anyone suggest something that isn't aa?

I hate to suggest replacing one vice with another, but smoking weed helped me drink less. Obviously thats not an ideal suggestion.

Why not AA btw?

Outside of getting professional help of some sort which might be hard right now, try to impede your own drinking in some way?

Keep your alcohol in a safe that you'd have to be fairly sober to open?

AA isnt religious at all, you just have to submit to a Higher Power. A greater force than yourself. It could be mother nature or a great spirit, doesnt matter. Religion is not even talked about in meetings, specifically because it makes people fight. Same with politics

Yeah that's expensive as hell and also probably not viable right now. I'm just weak.

Admitting you are powerless against alcohol is another step, and its not just you. There is not an alcoholic in the world that can outsmart or be 'strong enough' to overcome this disease. Its literally like 2,000,000,000 to 0, booze wins everytime.

With that much alcohol, youll just need to cold turkey it. I mean, use whatever you need to for motivation but that would be what you need to do. Theres no point in going through a cutback process on alcohol.

Dont they make you recite rhetoric about god though? I'm not religious and don't want to abide by any god.

That all sounds very religious, and they keep it vague for the sake of avoiding conflict. Higher Power talk is quite nearly inherently religious.

Oh, and do you have insurance for a psychotherapist, tc?

Higher Power doesnt mean a creator. It could be pure energy we see and feel everyday. Its everywhere. The essence of life itself. All that matters is you realize You arent the center of the universe. Its about taking a backseat and stop trying to control this shit because you can't. And you never will, you need a support group to recover. Even alcoholics that "quit" are dry drunks. Thats why they need a sponsor to lean on. But that urge, that desire, doesnt go away. We love to drink, its that simple.

Higher Power doesnt mean God, Jesus Christ, Allah, or a Creator. Thats one of the first things they tell you. Its about willingly submitting to the Fact you are powerless against alcohol.

Alcholism is based on your own habits.
You need to learn to train yourself.

Dont give him shitty advice please, when you are apparently in denial about being an alcoholic yourself. You dont even acknowledge alcoholism is defined as a disease by the experts. And in the last sentence you are pushing the myth that one can control alcoholism if they are just strong or disciplined or smart enough. 0/3, you arent helping .

Do what I do, accept it. Once you're there, you can make full decisions. When you go for the first one think: Do I want to get drunk today?

If you have something to do, wait until after. Maybe you won't feel the need. Do a lot of physical stuff (walk you dog longer than usual) to make yourself sleep faster before you finish it if you have to.

But Most of all, don't make it into some demon that you have to fight; it's part of you and you have to accept that. Just keep reminding yourself that your'e in control of you, the liquid poison isn't.

but Im a norse pagan that drink to the gods, so who knows.

The guy is guzzling a 30 pack a day and feels his body giving out, and your advice is 'walk your dog a little more'. Hes clearly not in control, no alcoholic ever is, thats the whole point. It doesnt ever stop and defining it as a personal demon is a fair description.

Bro, I am to lol. it isn't as easy as "Walk your dog", but it's a STEP. you find your own way to deal with it. If he doesn't wanna do the tried and true method, then he's gotta settle.

The religiosity of AA is largely a veneer that is what you make of it. I'm a staunch atheist who avoided AA because of that but it ended up being a non-issue. It just became background noise, a small part of something much bigger.

But, if you really want something else aside from AA, and since AA isn't all that viable an option anyway, check out the stopdrinking subreddit. There's no single method, just a community of people trying to stop drinking.

Give AA a shot. In my town, there is even a group specifically run by and geared toward atheists. The groups can be as varied as the people in them.

If you're really drinking that much per day and can already feel your body start to break down from it you need to get professional help asap or you're probably going to die a lot sooner than you'd like. At some point your body is going to crap out somewhere between you're 40s-50s and you'll be in and out of the hospital with liver failure or kidney failure. You might as well use your resources now while you still have a chance to recover rather than use them for hospital treatments and the damage already being done. Good luck sir.
