The "united" was always supposed to be in a half-measure sort of way anyway, with neither full independence or total centralization.

The issue these days though is that polarization has become very heavy. The main cause (directly and indirectly) is basically the rise of social media. Who by virtue of pursuing profits by making their customers happy, have been exposing them to people with the most similar interests. Leading to echo chambers. Normally, people moderate their views to a certain degree by the knowledge that many people they know have differing views. But when everyone they interact with have the same or even more extreme views, they too will start to relax their sense of reason and become more certain that this group is the correct one.

Its gotten pretty bad. The right and left are at a point now such that there are many on both sides that see each other as actual enemies. As in, enemies to the point where they often refuse to work together.

Things will need to change if we want to have a future for this nation. A democratic republic works on the basis of compromise. If those who represent us are no longer willing to compromise, then the nation will slowly fall apart.

I'm sure the feds know where this "undisclosed location" is. It's not like you can have dozens of armed troops guarding something and not have the government know about it. Besides guarding it only works if you are actually prepared to open fire on federal agents. I mean let's say the FBI pulls up with a few dozen agents and a truck and says they are taking the test kits and anyone that doesn't comply will be arrested, what then? If the Maryland State Police and National Guard aren't willing to shoot to kill then they are just wasting their time.

Most likely the feds just don't want to start a standoff so they aren't even attempting to steal the test kits.
