in my experience nothing seems to give a better first time impression than showing up precisely on time.
once i had to lease a place to stay and started knocking at the dot(yes, dot) of our scheduled meeting and he was so impressed he had to mention the punctuality of it. obviously i was offered the place. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Rule of thumb, be early to everything except parties. One, so you don't look like a dweeb, but more importantly so you're not catching the host off guard and forcing them into host mode when they're still at finishing touches of set up mode.
