No. We'll end up in the same situation anyways because of deaths and illnesses instead of lockdowns. We need to get though this and find alternative solutions without reopening.

It's just sped up what was inevitably going to happen anyway. More and more people getting into poverty \ massive debt \ dying to ensure the "majority" survives and life continues as "normal". All we're seeing now is an acceleration of this. I assumed it would be climate change or resource scarcity that would be the catalyst for the acceleration but here we are with the Covid.

Seriously. Can't count the amount of people that say how sad it is people are affected but the "economy" must come first and if a small amount of people suffer it's a price worth paying. Easy to say that when you assume you aren't the one going to suffer.

Does remind me of that old poem. Obviously not in terms of Nazi's but in terms of it's ok because I'm doing ok so fuck everyone else.

It's completely invisible and insanely infective. The "low" covid death rate doesn't matter if hospitals are too full to save people and if it's so mutation-happy that we'll be getting reinfected (= effectively multiplied death rate coz everyone gets to pull the trigger multiple times in this russian roulette).

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

That's fantastic news. Casual tourism needs to fucking disappear, handshake / kiss greetings mustn't exist, close contact sports will require more careful testing and airports should have had illness screening from the very beginning.

Yeah, a nuclear explosion or a pandemic of ebola / chickenpox / lethal mutation of covid might fuck us up badly.

Squall28 posted...

It's not 5% coz the covid death rate would keep rising together with the number of people infected, coz we can't treat so many victims and covid makes people unable to work. And with so many infected worldwide, it has a high chance of mutation (which may make it evade our immunity systems or even make it worse).

008Zulu posted...

hahaha, what?
Why exactly do you think it's "contained"? Because countries are enforcing social distancing and covid's extremely long infective incubation period. So what do you think will happen when we reduce the social distancing?

We've been through many far worse catastrophies. Mankind is very persistent.

Covid will likely damage the close relationships between many countries, greatly reduce tourism, destroy or change many things (restaurants, education systems) and put restrictions on sports. But we'll find other ways to entertain ourselves and survive.

On the bright side mankind worldwide now has experience in dealing with pandemics.
On the dark side, covid if covid doesn't mutate into something insignificant and disappear like another cold, we've lost our safe and comfortable lifestyles.

Ya with healthcare in a more primitive state.
Back then no one knew anything about isolating viruses and developing vaccines.

In fact governments were hiding the existence of Spanish flu as to not reduce war morale so spread was way worse.

Today we live in an age of social media where information is relayed instantly. Once the world gets it grasp on things regarding covid-19, we'll be back to going to bars, restaurants, and travelling.

Today we live in an age of social media where information is relayed instantly. Once the world gets it grasp on things regarding covid-19, we'll be back to going to bars, restaurants, and travelling.

(before covid) Today population density is far higher and it's much easier to travel across the planet, right? Hell, many businesses strongly depend on it.

Also, we're as far with vaccines and cures as we had been 100 years ago: covid has none and won't have vaccs until 2022. There are no effective treatments for covid and overloaded hospitals would put as back to the same situation of no medical systems again.

Now people keep making protests against the governments that spread covid like wildfire. You act like people get isolated now, but people go to work with covid while infective or else they won't get paid. In fact, in case of covid you don't even realize you're infected and infective.

Spanish flu had a short incubation period, while covid incubation is extremely long and you're infective during it.

So what advantages do we have in this covid outbreak that we didn't have during the spanish flu? The lower death rate of the virus? The infectivity is far higher so that balances it out.
