Watches can get awfully expensive just as a rule. it makes sense to me seeing the level of craftsmanship involved especially in the movements where they should be extremely accurate.

But a lot of people dont get watches because you can just pull out your phone and get highly accurate time. But, people buy and play vinyl records over digital, people still shoot with film cameras rather than digital, etc etc. Watches, especially mechanical or automatic are no different.

Watches are pretty much like the one luxury accessory guys can have. Women can have collars, bracelets, necklaces, ear rings, rings, heck they can even add gems down there.

Guys get watches, that's it. So the appeal of a watch is, like you said, more about the craftsmanship, fit and finish, the movement inside, etc. If you actually want to tell the time, your phone is far better. A 50$ digital casio is far more precise than many COSC-certified 24-jewel movements made in geneve and found in 10k watches. But think of the watch as a jewel and suddenly it makes sense. What good is a ring for? Diamond and all. A gold bracelet?

and just like a jewel, a watch can resell pretty well, unlike a computer or something like that.

Like the actual watch worn by Daniel Craig on set? Otherwise the justification isnt really there.

That's a lot to spend on a watch. I paid $20 for a Casio watch from Walmart 10 years ago. It still works to this day and looks just as nice as your Omega.
