NieR: Automata - Weight of the World (Japanese)
The Caligula Effect: Overdose - Love Scope
Granado Espada - Laguerra del Mundo

MATCH 1

Emotional vocal songs are great! Weight of the World is a very nice example of this. The acoustic guitar and piano are very nice here, and I also like the strings a lot--particularly from 3:48-4:16. This might be just due to the repeated listening to this version due to the contest, but I feel like I like the vocalist in the Japanese version a bit more than the English version, but regardless, the Japanese version has the nice touch of that soft "boku wa" at 5:19. I don't know, I just like it haha.

Sudden Visitor's cool and upbeat, but it's largely not all that appealing to me. The melody doesn't really stand out to me at all except from 1:36-1:57. That part's really cool. But yeah, the rest of this song, I don't really feel anything towards.

MATCH 2

Classroom is a really cool song! This is a good example of something that I can only describe as "computer music" (basically, modern tox-aligned stuff with an intentionally retro feel) that I really enjoy. Lots of different moving pieces in this song that all sound really cool, especially that repeating arpeggio in the background.

Love Scope sure has caught me in its love scope because I love Love Scope! I'll try to think of different stuff to think of when Onboro and Distorted Happiness come up later on because I love all three for similar reasons, but in general, anime j-rock stuff like this is extremely aligned with my music tastes! Go figure, right? Reina Ueda's a fantastic singer for these songs too. I especially love that brief high-pitched thing in her vocals at 1:07 during the "-shou." She's very energetic in her singing, matching the upbeat nature of this song. Everything about this song (and the other songs I mentioned too) is amazing, and if you know anything about my VGM taste, it's pretty obvious that I'd feel this way haha.

MATCH 3

Laguerra del Mundo's very cool upbeat rock stuff as well. Probably high-tier Granado Espada music, if I had to rank it in that way. The guitar riffs and violin lines are a very nice combination here. The softer piano parts are also a nice contrast that works just as well to transition from energetic to calmer and back to energetic. Great song all throughout that never loses its charm!

Some Day the Dream Will End is also very good! Another example of me liking emotional songs. That first 24 or so seconds is so good. Especially at 0:10 when those flute notes come in. Really close match, but I'm feeling Laguerra a little more. Definitely a strong ToC match!
