I guess it departs too much from Earthbound that I couldn't enjoy it as much but that's a me thing, not an Mother 3 thing. Didn't like the plot direction, didn't like the theme, didn't like the chapter oriented gameplay, didn't like the battle had rhythm bullshit in there.

Like in EB you could finish the game half giving a shit about anything really and I think that was part of the charm.

Same. I didnt like the chapter progression. I much prefer and enjoyed an overworld to travel around. Being locked to certain areas and no backtracking hurts the feel.

i also could never get the battle rhythm system down right.

it looked like earthbound, it sounded like earthbound but it didnt feel like one.
