I go to bed at a reasonable hour but I cannot get myself to fall asleep
I do have melatonin (5mg capsules), should I increase the dosage? Or are there other things I can buy that might help me? Anyone here take sleeping aids? --- i.imgur.com/mkGoWsg.jpg i.imgur.com/mkGoWsg.jpg i.imgur.com/mkGoWsg.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'd avoid the benadryl sleep aid which is diphenhydramine, it makes me so groggy and I drag ass all day. Valerian root and gaba are good natural options and work for me.
I think you are mistaking thc with alcohol when it comes to REM sleep, I think drinking and going to bed messes with your sleep patterns I think thc is just fine. --- Ten million dollars on a losing campaign, Twenty million starving and writhing in pain. Melatonin is only effective for short term, like if you switch time zones. Otherwise normal, continual use, you will find that you will be waking up 3-4 times a night, which means you will be getting worse sleep than not taking melatonin.
Turns out my circadian is flipped from a normal person, I can sleep soundly during the day, but living like a normal human, I am a lifelong insomniac who gets sleep paralysis. Nothing works. Every single sleep aid I've tried made me into a zombie during daytime hours. The only thing that works effectively is alcohol but that will kill my liver in the long run. --- Some Important Reminders ... Copied to Clipboard!

I dont talk about this with my family but lately Ive had so much anxiety/stress/and now with sleep being an issue, irritability and maybe some other bad stuff (I dont want to self-diagnose myself with anything more extreme). Its a serious issue. We spend between 25-33% of our lives sleeping, which is supposed to be getting well rested for the next day. I've run through a bunch, but none seem to work. My doctor finally prescribed Clonidine and that seems to be the best thing for me, but even that has started to stop working the longer I take it.

I've also been told that melatonin is one of those things that increasing the dose won't necessarily make you sleepier. If you take 15 mg opposed to 5 it can be counterproductive. I thought for a while taking more would help more but it eventually gave me insomnia because I think it screwed with my natural ability to produce it.

I too suffer from insomnia. Sadly I didn't get any real cures after a sleep study and a few visits with a sleep specialist. But there are some things you can do to help! Is your problem falling asleep or staying asleep? Sleep specialists and medicine is much better better at solving issues related to falling asleep than randomly waking up.
Random advice: 1) Don't drink coffee/caffeine after 12:00. 2) Try to go to bed at a consistent schedule. The more consistent with less variation the better (so 10:00-11:00 every night is better than 9:00-1:00) 3) Get up at about the same time 4) Do you snore? If yes you may want to consider getting tested for apnea - which sucks but at least there is a cure/solution for that If you are going to take melatonin take the smallest dose possible --- ...
