I have a hard time feeling empathy for the people complaining about the virus' name. Why?

People call Black lives matter thugs. Asian Americans are like ^_^
Trump calls haiti and african countries shitholes. Asian Americans are like ^_^
*Trump calls mexicans rapists*. Asian Americans are like ^_^
*Trump calls hispanics bad hombres* Asian Americans are like ^_^

*Trump calls the virus a Chinese virus or a wuhan virus* Asian Americans are like SurprisedPikachu.JPG and cry racism.

I mean, there's that saying, "first came for the ______, but I wasn't a ______ so I didn't do anything" tale. Now the virulent racism came for them, they should have thought about it before.

I mean, it's wrong, and I am against people calling COVID that way. But I am consistent because I did call racist all of the other stuff I listed above.

I just think it's a dumb hill to die on. The disease is officially known as COVID-19 and the virus is SARS-CoV-2, colloquially we call it the coronavirus. Deliberately calling it the "Wuhan Plague" or the "Chinese Virus" goes against both and just seems forced, potentially dangerous given the rise in attacks against those of perceived Asian origin

I'm not endangering anyone by calling it the Chinese virus. That's not how this works.

Even if it doesn't endanger people, I agree that it's a weird flex. We have scientific names for it and one that everyone calls it (Corona), forcing a new name is dumb as shit and as pointless as Trump's fake tan.

I think a great many of them at least have some form of suppressed racism. Every single person I know personally who are going out of their way to put extra emphasis on China, are people I have heard express what I'm going to call "locker room racism".

I wouldnt say racist necessarily. A lot of people who use the term are trying to stick it to the Chinese due to nationalistic pride, but dont understand that the Chinese government, who they should be speaking out against, doesnt care what we call it and that their use of the term increases tension directed against Chinese people across the country.

That or theyre just refusing to differentiate between Chinese people and their government. Or theyre trolling.

Either way, the upshot is that it comes from a place of ignorance and people should probably stop.

the model minority is an asian stereotype, basically Asians are successful and not like those other minorities and those minorities should fall in line with them.

you're making a HUGE logical jump there. I simply said they were ok with the other examples I brought up and only cared about the one that affects them directly. That's hardly saying that they're successful and "not like those other minorities".

I can't argue with this post. Hopefully, the Asian American community will understand how much of a fool's end, as a minority, to join in with the majority when they're trashing other minority groups.

You call out the individuals for their bigotry and hypocrisy, but you grouping an entire race together and acting like they collectively deserve it is the same kind of racist rhetoric as the people who go black culture or hispanic culture Your post sounded like a trump post itself.

And for the record, while statistics are obviously not the end-all-be-all, 77% of Asian-Americans voted Democrat last election and the three states with the most Asian-Americans, California, New York, and Hawaii are all blue.
