I mean I get it. If they taught cops to instead shoot for the legs or arms to INCAPACITATE their targets then that could bring on a host of potential lawsuits against the department which will ultimately make the cops trigger-shy. This can be a significant detriment that undermines the authority police officers must maintain.

HOWEVER, police are there to protect citizens. They should not be trained to be executioners. They can't make those calls. We have a court and judicial processes for a REASON! Cops should aim to preserve peace and order while MINIMIZING human sufferings from *both* sides.

USA should be the leader when it comes to effective enforcement of their laws. Sadly I am ashamed in their handling of it

Cops arent there to protect citizens. Thats what the military is for. Cops enforce the law and thats it.

Having said that, cops should obviously be better trained and have higher standards for who they employ. And cops should only shoot if their life or someone elses is in immediate danger. And also have body cameras that record everything they do and cannot be switched off except to go to the loo

The training is supposed to include not drawing a weapon unless there is an imminent threat to life. But if the weapon is fired, the target is center mass and the shooter cannot afford to miss.

That's the ideal, at least. Aim for a limb and it's very likely the shot will miss altogether.

I don't understand why they don't simply shoot the weapons out of people's hands

This isnt a movie. The torso is a much easier target to hit.

They dont need guns to do that. They should do a quadruple backflip, and disasemble the gun while the criminal is holding it in midair

They should just use their heat vision to melt the weapons

the main issue to me is that cops expect us civilians to act perfectly and do all the right moves under pressure to survive a tense situation. but they don't have to. if they feel nervous they have the legal power to kill us. if we feel nervous, nobody cares

Anytime a gun is drawn its always to shoot center mass, the shooting limbs stuff is Hollywood naive thinking. Literally the targets at shooting ranges teach you this. Or else the targets would have legs and arms on them. XD

I hope you're being facetious, because that's now how reality works.

Most police officers aren't Cyclops or Superman or a Kryptonian.

Well heres a thought: maybe they should have legs and arms??? So cops can learn how to go for less fatal shots? XD

They also have to face all the evils of society every day, every second. That wears on officers psyche when it's Day in, Day out of dealing with the crappiest of situations every day.

That's not how reality works, shooting well on a range and shooting under stress is a whole different thing.

You watch too many movies, trying to aim for a small target is likely to get yourself killed and anybody you're trying to protect.

Stopping the threat by going center mass is standard proven practice for a reason.
