I have the Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, thoughts on these?

I just finished Oathbringer which I enjoyed. I also recently finished the Licanius trilogy which I thought was utter trash and not sure why it's got such rave reviews.

High fantasy - is this just fantasy with an emphasis on world building?

The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter.

it's basically a revenge-based action movie in an African-inspired setting.

yeah kind of. its also generally a fantasy world, think middle earth/dragon age/warcraft, instead of being some form of derivation of reality like say arthorian legends or percy jackson/harry potter/dresden files. but i suppose even those later books could be considered high fantasy...

As a series it's just alright considering the quality of the 2nd and 3rd books. Lies of Locke Lamora, the first book, is fantastic though.

Anyway for a new series, go with Dresden Files. It's been a long time since the last entry, but as a result he's got two new books coming out this year. And it's generally gotten better as the series progressed too

Also Her Majestys Dragon by Naomi Novik I believe. Extremely fun to read if you like epic dragons and action. Never finished series actually... want to.

More Sanderson?

Mistborn.

Also there is Brian McClellan with his Powder Mage series, I liked it.

I don't find I have much emotional investment with Sanderson's writing, I do dig his stories though so will do Mistborn later on.

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan with the last three books finished by Sanderson. Its 14 books long so it will last you a while. Though they should have made it 13 books instead. If you read the series then you will understand why.

The only downside is after a TV show finally being made for it they are fucking it up with just plain awful casting.

I have read actually and loved it - no interest in the tv show.

Networks are really pushing to fill the GOT void huh.
