great series! not really surprising that multi-parters take the top few slots (though i'd combine them - they don't feel like they stand on their own as much)

really enjoyed the writeup about boiling rock part 1. also not enough "that's rough buddy"

The problem arises when I onbly enjoy one of the parts and that means I'd have to place the episode at some median point. I don't enjoy doing that.

And episode parts are different enough from each other in this show, overall. I was able to pick the different themes and strong points of all of them.

It's the opposite! He wins without using anything at all he learned by mastering the elements! He was getting wrecked and spent the whole fight running away, then used (at best) the training he received in one episode to win the battle, and then used the training he received in one other episode to win the war. Kid would've done better in that fight had he done nothing in the series but meet the guru. The ending was such a disappointing cop-out

That would be true if Avatar Aang was the Avatar State taking over Aang's body. I can see how it looks like that but it's not. It's Aang using his own mastery of the Avatar State and his own mastery of the elements.
