The biggest thing that turned me off of newer pokemon was how hard it was to cheat a team(I am not about to legit grind a week or more for a competitive team). I do enjoy the competitive scene but the breeding, the training, and all that took way too long and I imagine it's the same with these.

It's stupidly fast to train a competitive Pokmon team now. You can feed vitamins for EVs (the 100 cap has been removed). Ideally, you want to breed for IVs, but you can also buy bottle caps to max IVs (they are expensive).
