He didn't want to go south because of Sauruman, and didn't want to take the mountain passes due to the season. Aragorn was against Moria due to his own foresight. They feel needlessly bloated with random fluff that isn't relevan t, is just there to get a smile or a hard dick from someone who read the books, or is kind of bad narratively or clearly unfinished in terms of effects.
