Ah yes, I forgot about how much the world has changed since the COVID-19 outbreak of 2000.

But this isn't a stance, it's a lie. Being 60 or older or having a compromised immune system isn't the same as being on your last leg, and those aren't the only people dying. My 29 year old brother for example is high risk and could die from this, and before this virus I had no reason not to think he would have a normal life span.

Why is your brother high risk, if you are ok with me asking?

Cancer. He had a brain tumor on his brain stem, and it was in such a bad location that they couldn't remove all of it, because of that he had to be bombarded with radiation and various other treatments. It was so much radiation that doctors no longer feel safe giving him x-rays unless its absolutely necessary. He's had a bunch of medical problems since. One problem he has is he only has partial ability to swallow, so he's already high risk for pneumonia from aspiration. Worst is probably that his stomach is literally dead. He can eat, but only for pleasure and 99% of it goes out into a folly bag. To get nutrition he has a feeding tube that goes high up in his intestines and we run it every night.

Intelligence was he is normal, smarter than me though that isn't saying much. He has problems, but every doctor assures us he should have a relatively normal life.

No idea why I was so detailed, I've been drinking and felt the need to not undersell it.

People knew smoking was unhealthy over a hundred years ago, and scientists proved in the 1950's, iirc.

Damn, that sounds truly awful. I've had experience with not being able to swallow (I had bad internal fungal infections when I first found out I had AIDS and it sucked really bad not being able to eat) but nothing nearly as bad as what your brother lives with. Thank you for sharing that with me and I hope that he stays ok through this. It's good that he has a loving sibling like you at his side.

They arent scared. Many believe themselves to be in good health and statistically in little danger of dying even if infected. And many people dont mind just avoiding their high risked loved ones for the next few months and this whole thing blows over either.

At least that's my mind set for the most part. That and being mentally prepared to died from a large number of things within my profession.
