I dont think theyre in any actual danger but I really freaking hope Panera Bread goes under.
Evil fucking company, eliminated a position last week that was not planned to be rolled back til 2021. They didnt do it to save their ass, like needed the money to keep from going under or anything, they specifically did it now to capitalize on the lack of job options so theyd get less pushback. All the duties of that role (midmanagement on the bakers side) will now have to be absorbed by the BTS role, with no pay increase, and if they dont like it they can go be jobless was basically the message. Also its tragic because people in the role that was eliminated often worked their way up to it, meaning they were loyal to this company for a decade plus to get there.... let go without a second thought to the job climate.
I know we dont expect chains to have good morals but Im steaming.

No I have something like 5 close friends working there now, all of them will be seeking new jobs the first second its conceivable. Panera really showed its true money hungry colors...

No, as I said- they currently work there. The company eliminated a position nationwide tho, putting probably hundreds out of work, not to be brought back even after the pandemic. Basically the company used the pandemic to manipulate a situation so they could pull a shit move and wouldnt have workers strike or ask for raises.

They're "doing alright" in the same sense that Sears was "doing alright" a few years back.

You never said what it was
? Sorry if Im being vague or just too specific to the company to understand.
In my first post I tried to explain that Panera decided to eliminate a middle management type position on the bakers side called BMM. This is nationally. Meaning anyone who was in this role before in the nation is now unemployed.
The reason this is fucked up imo is that it was planned for 2021, and they knew it would cause unhappiness for all the baking staff. Its in general a decision no one likes as it makes a ton more work for the already overloaded bake staff, esp the BTS position (kind like a shift manager?). The reason Panera decided to do it now during the pandemic instead of the planned 2021 though was because now they wont have to give a raise to these BTSs whos workload just significantly increase and role expanded into duties theyve previously never touched.
Everyone is so scared to lose their income that they wont protest/strike or be able to demand any kind of fair exchange at all, because the company can let them go and not be hurt without them right now.
if Panera had done this just to save the company from going under or something similar, wed be less upset. But thats not the case. They admitted they have tried to eliminate this position before with disastrous results which makes sense cuz its a terrible decision, but is profitable to the higher ups....

Several hundred in fact and they were bleeding revenue before all this. But their stock value is BOOMING.

Macys AMC and Gamestop are companies that I'd wager aren't around in a years time.

After it all and everything, I guess it's gonna be pretty hard to get some decent clothing to wear in public and keep your looks and status up.

But by then I guess it wont matter anymore.

Or one can just raid empty homes and go through their stuff looking for clothing.

Hell I don't know.
