I didn't enjoy education until I pursued higher education. I graduated high school in 2007. The stranglehold the system has in place in the k-12 years is a nightmare and I actually pity students going through it today.

there's no worse torture than being lectured and drilled on boring and (largely) impractical shit day in and day out

and the fucking papers... ugh, made me want to jump into oncoming traffic every time one was assigned

just completely torturous, really

I liked it. You get to learn tons of new stuff everyday, and I enjoyed the challenge of figuring things out.

I enjoyed the private school I attended K-8. When I hear horror stories about the public school system, it makes me appreciate that I didn't have to deal with most of it. The only thing that really bugged me about school was rich kids pretty much getting preferential treatment on everything.

Then I went to a public high school and it sucked. Couldn't wait to get out. I graduated a year early just so I didn't have to deal with it.

I loved college, though. Did undergrad, a master's, a phd, and am currently finishing a second master's.

Agency mainly. For example, picking classes and coursework, setting my own schedule and direction in life. Prior to college I had none of that. Having these freedoms meant that I didn't feel oppressed and it lead to way more enthusiasm about learning. I mean you go from what is essentially being micromanaged to managing yourself.

This. And I normally didn't really care about the stuff that was being taught. Mostly in the History subject.

All of it?

Authority doesnt like me, I dont like authority, and I was on the boat of why do I need to know 98% of this useless shit that I wont ever need.

I skipped a lot junior year to the point we were getting letters saying Id go to juvie or some shit. Senior year I faked having a job so I could take 3 or 4 classes and be done by like 11am every day.

Sports and girls were about the only good part.
I fucked up sports leaving my school and going to another for a year, and girls I was sick of the same ones after like 10th grade.

This. It was far too long each day and far too boring. I also didn't like being forced to learn subjects I found tedious or boring especially the higher level mathematics in high school/college.

College was a lot better, though, since I got to pick more classes and it didn't take up my whole day most of the time.

Not student behavior, but I mean the structure of the school systems. The fact that funding comes from government and is constantly being cut. The crazy amount of required state testing (private schools don't have nearly the same amount of state testing). The fact that school budgets, and thus offerings at those schools, are based on the results of state testing. I've also heard from friends who are public school teachers the requirements they have to follow for their curriculum and the lower pay they get. Private schools generally pay their teachers better and give them more flexibility in the way they design the curriculum.

I would imagine, though, that private schools, being more selective, probably have more control over student behavior as they have an easier time expelling a bad student than public school does.

I guess it depends on state/county and the level of funding at each. When I lived in Oklahoma, the teacher pay was among the lowest in the country, so it wasn't hard for private schools to pay more.

I never took it serious, so I had fun at times. It never stressed me out cause I never cared if I actually finished. Which I didn't. The only thing that really got me wanting to go was trying to make progress with crushes.
