Yup. Until the vaccine (which will probably be mid to late next year), things won't be normal.

This is completely selfish of me, but I should be graduating college in December and I would hate it if, after putting college off for so long, that once I finally DO have some education under my belt and can quit my shitty grocery store job, Im unable to because things are so screwy because of this virus.

Our medicine has advanced far and we got over confident. The modern world did not believe such an outbreak could happen again. That we would be able to deal with it. So yeah this is a wake up call. A virus doesn't have to be exceptionally deadly to be a threat, it just needs to be very contagious with no real way to prevent it.

Hopefully this makes a more hygienic world going forward.

Honestly though, all this showed is how unbelievably unprepared we are. All things considered we got incredibly lucky. If this had been something worse, especially with the stupidity that's been going on, we might not recover for a long time.

Makes you wonder if anything will be different next time if/when it happens again.

Depends on your definition of "normal" IMO. I think the virus will be a threat until we have a vaccine. Or sooner if we really f*** up and end up with herd immunity due to high infection rates. But I think our level of social distancing will start to relax somewhat in May-June. Any sooner than that would be a huge mistake. Of course there's still the chance we may have to return to strong measures if there's another spike. Hopefully we can come up with some kind of plan to slow down the spread before then.

It'll be a long time until things are truly back to normal as though things were before. A lot of businesses will shut down and everything won't bounce back in a snap. It'll happen sooner or later though.

Normal normal, like where we were three months ago? Not until there is a vaccine. Until that happens, we will need to be conscious of this virus.

A semblance of normal where we can stop being scared and open up and live? June for most places, probably August for the hot spots. The vaccine is a ways a way, but improving how we fight and treat it is in the not too distant future, that will help us a lot. If we can make those who have it go through less pain and also shorten the span they have it, that would make a world of difference.

Something we also need to consider is that maybe a sense of normalcy doesn't come at all until a vaccine is had. That's scary to think about, but you can't just ignore that this is possible, you have to consider all realistic outcomes otherwise you will panic if it comes to fruition.

It depends on whether the virus recedes in the summer. We dont know that much about it right now, so it might be treading water until we find an effective antiviral, which could be a while.
