Yes as time goes on and more people get infected people will die.

That doesn't change the fact that 900 died in the US in 3 weeks, and 3000 people died in China over 3 months.

In that 3 month period 150000 people died from cancer.

A nurse just died in a Manhattan hospital, a hospital where they need to use trash bags as protection because they are out of proper tools. AND WE ARE A MONTH BEFORE THE PEAK. What will the situation be two weeks from now let alone a month from now? We already have nurses playing arts and crafts to try and protect themselves.

People need to stop downplaying this shit.

For real we won't lose millions, but this is bad and downplaying it does nothing but bring a false sense of security to stupid people who think they can completely disregard this.

Cancer isn't contagious and doesn't spread exponentially.

Cancer is also far more difficult to prevent. It requires longterm lifestyle(and possibly environmental) changes to meaningfully decrease your chances and there are many factors(Age, Genetics, Certain infections/disorders, environment injuries etc) that are poorly understood and difficult or impossible to change/avoid.

Well yes obviously the growth cannot be sustained forever as the human population is finite and once a majority of the population has gotten sick the immunity most people will have will stunt spread potential unless a new strain emerges or possibly a long enough time passes.

If we just pretend nothing is happening our healthcare system would be overwhelmed and we could have tens or hundreds of thousands of otherwise preventable deaths as coronavirus directly and indirectly kills people through shortages of care and decreased quality of care even for non Coronavirus issues

If anything, the ones trying to create panic should be modded. Exponential growth is a basic factor in every contagious illness.

People have died and will die. It won't wipe out civilization, shift the balance of world power, or overtake some of the more common causes of death in the US and abroad.

It's frightening because it's a new virus which we don't have a vaccination for. These things have happened before and will happen again. The ones say, "But... but..." are the ones trying to make people afraid for fuck all reason.

We're doing as best we can to keep people indoors and keep them from being exposed. Sitting and worrying that the virus might crawl through the walls or that it might already be present in the food that is necessary to survive isn't going to do anyone any good.

If there is a giant asteroid that is going to wipe out all humanity in six weeks from now, panicking won't do anything to stop it. And nobody cares that you'll get to be the one to say, "I knew this would happen."

Fear can only help you in the avoidance stage. You see a problem, you run from it. That's fear. If you have a problem you can't run from, fear ceases to have any function.

Telling people to wash their hands, keep their distance, and stay indoors isn't encouraging fear. That's encouraging precaution. Saying we're all gonna die no matter what, that's not helping anything. And you are correct, you're deliberately attempting to rob people of what little time they have left by instilling mental anguish. It's like spitting on a person's last meal.
